ASUS occupies an unusual place in rooting: historically developer-friendly, but inconsistent. ASUS has offered an official bootloader unlock tool for many ROG Phone and Zenfone models, letting you unlock over an app or fastboot — but the company has repeatedly suspended, removed, and later restored that tool across generations, so availability depends heavily on your exact model and firmware era.

When an official unlock is available, ASUS ships relatively clean Android, and rooting follows the standard Magisk flow (boot or init_boot depending on the launch Android version). ROG Phone devices in particular have an active enthusiast community around performance and gaming modules, making them popular rooting targets. The catch is that unlocking an ASUS device has sometimes voided warranty explicitly and, on some models, disabled Widevine DRM (affecting HD streaming) — worth knowing before you commit.
